Souvenirs will only be made in
Egypt when imports of
souvenirs will be banned

The Egyptian Ministry of Economy and Trade has announced a new law banning the import of certain Egyptian souvenirs.

This is so cheap imitations of Egyptian handicrafts from China are withdrawn from the market. In particular, alabaster figurines, jewelry, wooden sculptures and mosaics are then only offered "Made in Egypt".

Through this local producers are promoted and  tourists are protected against counterfeiting.

The ban affects apparently no conventional plastic souvenirs like colorful key chain, fridge magnets, but explicitly  typical egyptian handicrafts such as alabaster, papyrus, etc.

On our page, "Souvenirs from Egypt", we present the most important Egyptian handicrafts.
